Sub-Branch hosting Remembrance Day Service
The Bacchus Marsh RSL Sub-Branch is inviting everyone to their Remembrance Day Service on the 11 November 2024 commencing at 10.30am on the Village Green.
Please join with branch members and those from the community to remember the service and sacrifice of the Service Men and Women who bravely fought and died to give us what we have today.
“We also remember those who returned, many injured, and left with the scars of war,” the sub-branch said.
“We particularly invite all current and past service members and their families. We are very fortunate this year as local school children will be participating in this service. Light refreshments will be served in the RSL hall after the service.
“This day is special to all Australians as at 11.00am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.”
On the first anniversary of the armistice (now called Remembrance Day) in 1919 two minutes’ silence was instituted as part of the main commemorative ceremony at the new Cenotaph in London. The silence was proposed by Australian journalist Edward Honey, who was working in Fleet Street.
Veterans and members will be selling tokens at several locations in Bacchus Marsh, the Newsagency on Main Street, the Village Shopping Centre, and IGA Maddingley from Monday 28th October until Sunday 10th November 10am until 4pm.
