Moorabool library members can erase their overdue fines by donating non-perishable food items back into the community.

The Ballan and Lerderderg Libraries will waive $2 from library fines for every item of packaged non-perishable food that is donated.

The food will then be passed on to Ballan District Health & Care and The Neighbours Place in Bacchus Marsh.

Ballan District Health and Care Social Worker, Astrid said the donations would aid BDH&C’s small food bank that assists community members in times of crisis.
“The Library’s annual donation tops up our supplies, helping us to help our community,” she said.
“We are really grateful to the Moorabool Library Service for the initiative”.

The Food for Fines campaign will run until Friday December 1.
Sam, from Moorabool Shire Library Services, said the drive will run off the back of last year’s success.

“A lot of people used the service last year, which is why we have continued the drive again,” she said.

Donated food must have its packaging intact with use-by dates no earlier than February, 2018.

Fines will be waived for overdue charges only, not for damaged or lost books.

Community members, who are not members of the library, are also encouraged to donate.
