Tasty Tatalia triumphs

A drop from St Anne’s Winery has taken home a top award at the annual Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show.
The Tatalia 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the ‘Best Cabernet Family Wine’ at a presentation night held on Friday August 4.
Angus McLean, from St Anne’s Winery in Myrniong, said he was thrilled to see the Cabernet Sauvignon recognised.
“Shows like these are the fairest way to judge a product in this industry; each wine receives a certain amount of points, which amounts to either a gold, silver or bronze medal – it’s good to win one of these, but the trophy is the pinnacle of those awards.
“We are thrilled, surprised and humbled”.
Mr McLean said the complex and robust flavours evident in the Tatalia Cabernet Sauvignon were a result of its harvest in St Anne’s vineyard at Heathcote.
“Heathcote is a cool region with ancient deep soils and very little irrigation, meaning the area is dry and the fruit has very intense flavour,” he said.
“The Tatalia Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex wine that is imbued in our French Oak Barrels and can be cellared for ten years, easily”.
Judges at the Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show said the top drop showed “balance and complexity, with juicy vibrant fruit that was correct and integrated”.
“[We] could not say enough about this wine,” the judge’s report said.
More than 200 producers and boutique wineries enter into the Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show each year. This year’s panel was made up of four judges and three associate judges.
The Tatalia 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, which features soft capsicum and forest fruit tones, can be purchased instore or online at www.stanneswinery.com.au.
For local cellar door sales of all their produce, St Anne’s Winery is located at Myrniong.
