THE King’s Birthday long weekend (6 to 8 June) is the perfect time to discover Heathcote and its surrounding wine country, with 28 venues opening their doors to showcase the very best the region has to offer.

Visitors can spend the weekend exploring the vibrant township, strolling along the main street to enjoy pop-up cellar doors, boutique tastings, coffee, cake, and long lunches.

Many venues will also feature live music throughout the weekend, creating a festive atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

Adding to the celebrations, the Heathcote Artists will present the 20th Anniversary Heathcote Art Show at the RSL Hall. Once home to renowned artist Leonard French – creator of the iconic stained-glass ceiling at National Gallery of Victoria – Heathcote has long fostered a thriving creative community.

Visitors can enjoy a glass of local wine while browsing an impressive collection of works from talented regional artists.

Beyond the township, the region’s acclaimed wineries, distilleries and brewery offer memorable tasting experiences, gourmet lunches, live entertainment and stunning countryside views.

Visitors can soak up the relaxed vineyard atmosphere – or even take to the skies with a hot-air balloon ride at Munari Wines.

For those wanting to explore without driving, Blue Wren Shuttle will operate daily tours across three different regional circuits throughout the weekend.

While Heathcote is internationally recognised for producing some of the world’s finest shiraz, visitors will also discover exceptional white wines, sparkling wines and fortified varieties – many of which are small-batch releases rarely found elsewhere.

The region is also home to outstanding craft beers, locally distilled gins and premium spirits.

Importantly, every venue is family-owned and operated, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the makers themselves and hear the stories behind the wines, food and experiences.

“It’s a fantastic way to experience one of Central Victoria’s hidden gems,” said Peter Young, president of Heathcote Tourism and Development.

“Everyone involved is passionate about showcasing the wonderful experiences Heathcote has to offer. Located less than two hours from Melbourne, the region is also within easy reach of major regional centres including Echuca, Geelong, Ballarat, Shepparton and Bendigo.”
