Ballan Train Station now has a very noticeable makeover, with the foundations of its new pedestrian overpass lifted into place last month.
The overpass, which will give travellers access to a second platform, makes part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade.
A statement from Rail Projects Victoria read that works are currently underway to construct stairs, ramps and lifts on both sides of the station.
Across the station precinct, earthworks are underway to prepare for the new car park, and underground service installation and drainage works are progressing.
“As part of the half-a-billion-dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade we are upgrading stations, including Bacchus Marsh and Ballan, to feature second platforms and accessible overpasses,” said Mark Havryluk, Director of Regional Rail Revival.
“We thank the Ballan and Bacchus Marsh communities for their support and patience while we work to upgrade their stations.”
Mr Havryluk said construction at Bacchus Marsh Station is “progressing well,” with the piers for the pedestrian overpass currently under construction.
Works are continuing on the new Bacchus Marsh platform, and planned upgrades include 100 additional parking spaces.
Both the Bacchus Marsh and Ballan stations will see improved bus bays, bicycle facilities, security lighting and landscaping.
Construction is advancing on the three-kilometre track duplication between Bacchus Marsh Station and Maddingley, as well as the Ballan passing loop.
Although a date was not mentioned of when future replacement coach services may occur, Rail Projects Victoria said it will “communicate these changes to passengers in advance so they can plan ahead.”
The Ballan and Bacchus Marsh station upgrades are expected to be complete later this year.
