‘Tree’mendous plantings

Responsible for the management and maintenance of over 18,000 urban and reserves trees, Moorabool Council has committed an ongoing $100,000 for the planting of new and replacement trees across the Shire.
While an annual budget allocation is made towards the maintenance of these trees, there has been a limited budget for new or replacement trees.
Council’s General Manager Infrastructure, Phil Jeffrey said this allocation establishes a budget dedicated specifically to tree planting and will achieve the objectives of councils Street Tree Strategy.
“Council recognises and appreciates the importance of a dedicated tree planting program for the future.” Mr Jeffrey said.
“Not only are there many environmental advantages associated with new tree plantings, there are other advantages such as improved amenity and beautified streetscapes, social, health and wellbeing outcomes as well.”
The new initiative covers the supply, planting and establishment of trees across urban areas and towns within the Shire. Works began in early May on new plantings which are a blend of natives and exotics, depending on the location.
