THERE’S been a bit of extra zing to enjoying a coffee in Trentham lately after the town was officially crowned Australia’s number one Tiny Tourism Town.
The Hepburn Shire town is still in celebration mode after taking out gold in the Tiny Tourism Town category (for towns with populations under 1500) at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards, announced at Parliament House in Canberra last week.
A very pleased Hepburn Shire Council mayor, Cr Don Henderson, said it was a remarkable achievement for Trentham and the region.
“We are incredibly proud and excited to see the benefits this will bring to our community and local businesses,” Cr Henderson said.
“Trentham stands out for its natural beauty, charm, community spirit, and visitor appeal. This coveted national award is recognition of Trentham’s unique tourism offerings.”
Victoria Tourism Industry Council CEO Lisa Patroni said the win is a testament to the strength and appeal of Victoria’s regional tourism offerings.
“This award confirms that Victoria is home to some of the best tourism towns and experiences in the country,” Ms Patroni said.
“The Australian Top Tourism Town Awards have become a fiercely contested and much-loved celebration of regional excellence. Trentham’s win in such a competitive field proudly positions our state and Trentham on the national stage.”
The Australian Top Tourism Town Awards are presented by the Australian Tourism Industry Council and sponsored by Tourism Australia and Qantas.
To reach the national finals, towns first had to win gold at their respective state level, with results determined by expert judging, consumer reviews, and a public people’s choice vote.
This year’s other national winners include Fremantle, WA – Top Tourism Town (population over 5000) and Bungendore, Canberra Region – Top Small Tourism Town (population between 1500 and 5000).
Ms Patroni also congratulated Victoria’s other national finalists.
“We’re thrilled to see Warrnambool and Mount Beauty recognised in the Top Tourism Town and Small Tourism Town categories,” she said.
“Each of our finalists showcases a unique and compelling experience, reflecting the incredible diversity of Victoria’s regional tourism landscape.”
