Local residents will have a chance to have their say on the safety and traffic flow at the busy intersection of Gisborne Road and Holts Lane.

A VicRoads community information session will held at the Darley Civic Hub Pavilion tomorrow (Thursday, February 8). Residents are encouraged to drop in between 3 and 7pm to discuss the project with VicRoads representatives.

The planned upgrade will involve additional lanes on Gisborne Road to increase capacity, including a dedicated lane for southbound traffic to access the Western Freeway.

Access to Holts Lane from the service road on the eastern side of Gisborne Road will also be permanently closed to traffic to improve traffic flow and a new traffic island will be built on Holts Lane, east of Gisborne Road, to separate traffic lanes and improve safety.

A recent traffic count showed about 5100 vehicles used the Gisborne Road/Holts Lane junction, of which 11 per cent or 577 were heavy vehicles.

Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard said the $2.4 million upgrade will offer improved safety for drivers, reduced congestion, improved traffic flow, and enhanced safety for vulnerable pedestrians while catering for future population growth in the Bacchus Marsh and Darley area.

“We’re investing $2.4 million to improve safety and traffic flow through the busy intersection of Gisborne Road and Holts Lane,” he said.

“Residents are invited to drop in and hear our plans for this important upgrade and have their say.”

Mr Howard said works will be underway in the coming months, with the project expected to be complete by mid-2018.

The Darley Civic Hub Pavilion is located at 182 Halletts Way in Darley.
