Water Week comp returns
A LOCAL water company is inviting kids across its catchment to get creative, and submit posters for this year’s National Water Week competition.
Last year, Greater Western Water (GWW) received more than 800 entries from 35 schools, kindergartens, and early learning centres, including from here in Moorabool.
The company’s catchment includes Bacchus Marsh, Myrniong, and Merrimu.
For this year’s National Water Week competition, GWW is asking students to design, draw or paint a poster that reflects this year’s poster competition theme, “Water for all, inspiring action” which highlights the important role water plays in bringing individuals and communities together.
First prize winners from GWW’s local competition will automatically be entered into the state competition, with winners announced during National Water Week (21-27 October).
“The competition is a great opportunity for students to learn about the value of water in a way that’s fun and engaging,” GWW’s General Manager Strategy and Partnerships, Kessia Thomson said.
“We’ve seen some incredible entries over the years that promote water saving tips, highlight how water connects communities and the need to protect water as a precious resource.
“We encourage all local students to get on board this great competition again and do our area proud.”
Prizes include vouchers of up to $100 for individual students, or vouchers of up to $500 for their school to spend on a sustainability project.
Entries will be judged according to age ranges, with five different groups: Prep/Foundation, Year 1-2, Year 3-4, Year 5-6, and Early Learning/Kindergarten.
