BACCHUS Marsh residents looking to dispose of scrap metal now have a new listing available to them of people and businesses that can help.

The listing is being published on the Bacchus Marsh Residents page on Facebook and has been set up as a simple response to demand.

Page administrator Kat Barlow said about 20 residents a week had been posting on the page asking for information about scrap metal services, like details of providers and how to organise collections, so she decided to create the section.

“We’re always looking for ways to service the community, make things easier, put things in one place,” Ms Barlow said.

“If we put all resources in one place, that way people can access things quicker – and so that things don’t end up on the side of the road, they end up in the right place.

The listing of scrap metal disposal services is on the Bacchus Marsh Residents Facebook page ‘Featured’ section.

“We’re a large page; there’s 24,000 members…and we get people asking all different things, so the more we can use the whole group as a community hub – to service the community with information and resources – the better for everyone.”

Ms Barlow said most people offering to pick up scrap metal did so free of charge because they then sold the material.

“It’s my understanding that most people do it for free, but if it was a large amount I guess that would be a different thing,” she said, adding that she knew that some people were willing to pay to have their scrap metal taken away.

Ms Barlow said she was not surprised by the response since she posted the intention to set up the centralised information hub last week.

“That’s our community,” she said. “Everyone’s always willing to support each other and to support new things.

“So I’m never disappointed…because we’ve got a great community.”

The scrap metal resource is listed in the ‘Featured’ section of the Facebook page.
