Winterfest a warming evening

The event was inspired by European winter festivals and the town's cold climate.

TRENTHAM Winterfest was held on a chilly but clear night last week, with lots of people out on the street, every shop packed and the pubs heaving with patrons.

Highlights included a light show at Hotel Trentham provided by Australian Lighting & Sound, live music, food, cocktails and mulled wine throughout the precinct, as well as late night traders holding special events around the neighbourhood.

Winterfest organiser Kasie Watson from The Green Store said the night was fabulous.

“We were really lucky with the weather,” she said. “It was cold, but it wasn’t windy or stormy. We couldn’t have asked for better.”

Various shops around town got into the theme of the night with vibrant installations on their facades.

Ms Watson said the idea for the occasion came from Trentham’s reputation for cold weather at this time of the year, and visualising a European winter festival.

“That’s what I had pictured in my imagination and it just went from there,” she said.

“I talked about it with a couple of people, particularly Will Walton from Bell Property, and he was a big catalyst for us to do it.”

She said her own store was transformed into a winter theme for the evening.

“We used recycled materials to do the display and we did face painting at the back of the shop. A lot of kids came and got their faces painted, which was really cute.

“It was a great community night for lots of people to come along, families and all sorts of age groups.”
