ONE of Moorabool’s most famous streets is undergoing works, with motorists warned to expect delays.

Works at Bacchus Marsh’s Avenue of Honour began on Monday 29 April, to replace “several ageing or poor condition trees”, Moorabool Shire Council said.

As part of Council’s ‘Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour (BMAOH) Management Strategy’ and ‘BMAOH Preservation Plan’, nine trees have been proposed for “proactive replacement” in 2023/24, with another to be replaced due to storm damage.

The two documents were adopted by Council last year following consultation with a range of stakeholders, to guide the ongoing management of the Avenue of Honour into the future.

The Preservation Plan provides for the replacement of 255 trees in poor condition, or for strategic reasons such as trees being of the wrong species, incorrect location, or due to loss in canopy, over a 20-year period.

Thirty trees are proposed to be replaced over the first 2.5 years of the plan, with the remaining 20 trees to be replaced over the 2024/25 and 2025/26 financial years.

The current round of treeworks are expected to continue until Friday 17 May, with works occurring from 8am to 4pm.
