A week of character building for BCC

RATHER than wins, losses and washouts were the theme for Ballan Cricket Club last weekend.

The under-13 team struggled against a strong Coronet City side but four of BCC’s batters got through their first 20 balls not out against some tidy bowling.

Their strong batting took to BCC’s attack but the club was proud of their persistence and for keeping their spirits up.

With the first of three women’s T20 games to finish off the season, BCC were back at home. The club lost the toss and were sent into field.

Again, they were treated to another excellent display of batting from the opposition but this time from both ends, who piled on a massive total of 204, including a century from one of their openers.

Kiara Grigg top scored for Ballan’s U13’s with 8 not out.

Their pressure made it hard to maintain tidyness in the field and with the ball.

BCC then went into bat. Kori started fast, belting three boundaries before being bowled in the second over for 14.

Summer (26 no) again anchored the innings, putting on solid partnerships with Sami (11), Sav and her sister, Mariah to ensure that we batted out our 20 overs.

In the under-15s, Ballan versus Mount Clear was supposed to be a two-day, 50 over game. However due to rain, the first day’s play was abandoned after nine overs only being completed with Mount Clear batting solidly to 0/55. Shortened overs to complete the match, will be the order of the day next week.

Top scorer for Ballan, John Costello 28 not out.

It was a tough day in the field for Ballan’s senior seconds with runs flowing, including a centurion, for the opposition, and wickets hard to come by early on.

A bright spot was the captain taking a few at the end of the innings.

Batting, BCC’s top order struggled to get going against a solid bowling attack, and it was up to the middle order to try and salvage things by batting out BCC’s overs.

David Leach, Ballan president, returned after his illness battle.
