Alice Fitz in to ambassador role

A young woman with a passion for campdrafting has become a national ambassador to support charities through her sport.
Alice Fitzpatrick has been named this year’s Classic Ladies Foundation Young Ambassador, which allows young women in the campdrafting community to get involved with aiding important causes.
The 24-year old former Bacchus Marsh resident has been campdrafting for seven years, and says the sport is great “because the whole family can do it.”
“We’ve met so many beautiful people from travelling all over the country to campdraft…not only do you have to refine your own and your horse’s skills, you have to show up on the day and work as a team,” she says.
The Classic Ladies Foundation Young Ambassador Quest aims to support and empower young women who participate in campdrafting to get involved with the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, which includes donating to the charities Kiss Goodbye to MS and Foundation for Breast Cancer Care.
Ms Fitzpatrick says she wants to “raise awareness of the foundation” by getting other campdrafting clubs on board with raising money, and to encourage young women in campdrafting to become involved.
“I want to help promote and grow our sport and I really want the young riders in not only campdrafting, but the greater equine industry to realise that there are huge opportunities out there for them,” she says.
Her advice for young girls and women in campdrafting is to “step up and put yourself out there.”
“Don’t let being shy or embarrassed stop you from having a go and having fun,” she says.
“Say what you feel. Everyone is only human like you, you’ve nothing to lose from being yourself. You’d be amazed the support that you get when people can see how hard you’re trying.”
As for the future, Ms Fitzpatrick has completed a Bachelor of Agribusiness, which has included working on a cattle station in the Northern Territory and working under top cutting horse trainer Corey Holden.
She says she is currently looking for her “next opportunity in the agricultural industry,” but aims to make the most of her new opportunity with the Classic Ladies Foundation.
“I’ve been meeting as many new people as I can, and making sure all our sponsors are recognised while undertaking presentations at major events around Australia, trying to best represent the foundation and promote campdrafting.”
Alice will be showing off her skills at the Bacchus Marsh Campdraft competition from 22-24 March at the Bacchus Marsh Racecourse Reserve.
