Another country cup for Our Millionaire
Harness Racing Victoria
Our Millionaire has moved within striking distance of the lead in 2022 Trots Country Cups Championship after a commanding victory in the 3SH Swan Hill Pacing Cup last Friday night.
The Emma Stewart-trained six-year-old had his rivals chasing early and after some respite mid-race in the 2790m marathon kept them at bay comfortably.
Our Millionaire ran home in 26.4 and 27.8 seconds to rate a track record 1:56.3 – one second second inside the previous mark.
For reinsman David Moran, he made the most of a pick-up drive, replacing Mark Pitt, who was unavailable to fulfill his engagements for the night.
Blitzern fought on for second after facing the breeze, just holding off charging hometown hope Torrid Saint in the $35,000 Group 3 feature.
Our Millionaire has become a country cups specialist over the past two seasons, winning the St Arnaud and Stawell Cups last year and now the Horsham and Swan Hill Cups in 2022.
He has also finished third in the Charlton Cup and second in the Mildura Cup.
These performances have lifted Our Millionaire to 16 points in the country cups championships behind Demon Delight (19) and Phoenix Prince (18).
Our Millionaire was one of four winners for Stewart’s Cardigan stable for night.
New Zealand-bred mare So Art I remained unbeaten in four starts in Australia with a win in the Bunnings Warehouse Pace; The Raconteur also stayed unbeaten for Stewart with her second win since arriving from Queensland in the Peter Walsh MP Swan Hill Mile; and Spring Blue scored in the Bart N Print 2yo Maiden Pace.
It was also a big night for the Murphy family from Dunnstown near Ballarat.
David and his son Brent combined for a winning training/driving double, and another son Declan also drove a winner.
