BACCHUS Marsh Little Athletics Centre members took part in the region’s cross-country meet on Saturday.

The Western Metro Region Cross Country Carnival was held at Bacchus Marsh Grammar and included representatives from centres throughout the area.

“The kids found it quite a gruelling course but that’s cross country for you,” committee member Linda Thompson said.

“They had to tackle a bit of a steep hill and run along the side of the hill, coming back down and around.

“They all performed extremely well, and we were quite proud of their achievements.”

Evie White was awarded bronze in the under 16 division.

Medallists included Harbin Kaur Aujla who came second in the under 10 event, Joshua Askew who came third in the under 12 category, and Thomas Ibrahim who came third in the under 14 race.

In the under 16 event, Caleb Hurst took out first place while Nicholas Ibrahim and Evie White finished in third.

Medallists have progressed to the state championships to be held at Lake Dewar which will be hosted by Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre in August.

“We will be the host centre for that event because it’s one of our home venues,” Ms Thompson said.

“We will run the canteen, and it will be a good little fundraiser for the centre.”
