Week 4 of the Cross Country season was held at Lake Dewar Lodge, located amongst the picturesque bushlands of the Pentland Hills.  Athletes took the opportunity of competing on the same venue which will host the upcoming Region & State Championships.

The Under 7 & 8 athletes were the first race for the morning, with athletes completing one lap of the 1km course.  Melton’s Under 7 athlete Fletcher Reid notched up his 4th consecutive win while Harry Wark (Under 8 Melton) and Emilia Ibrahim (Under 8 BM) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.  The race between the Under 7 girls was enthralling, as Sadie Lloyd (Ballarat) and Rylee Robinson (BM) had a sprint finish to the line, with Sadie just pipping Rylee to claim the win and produce a personal best time of 5:33.60mins.  Emma Foley (BM) was the 3rd Under 7 athlete home, also recording a personal best performance.

The Under 6s were next to compete over 500 metres. A fast downhill start saw runners strung out in the early stages, but it was Melton’s Mckinley Wilson who ran a perfectly timed race to record her first win and a PB result of 2:36.21mins. Tegh Singh Mann (Melton) also recorded a PB result.

Bacchus Marsh’s Elise Cook claimed the win in the Open age 3km event while Oliver Carr (BM) was first home for the boys.  Well done to Allyson Currall (Melton) who competed in her first 3km event this season.

Balreet Kaur Mann (Melton) continues to dominate in the 1.5km events, taking the win for the Under 10s in a time of 6:36.92 mins while Zeke Horne (BM) claimed victory for the boys.  In the Under 9s Angus Norman was declared the winner for the boys while Anni Clarke took the win for the girls. Ameliah Lorenzon (BM) continues to improve, and this week recorded another PB performance.

The final race for the morning saw the Under 11 & 12 athletes contest the 2km event.  Once again early leaders Dushan Baniluk, Lachlan Simons and Patrick Lovett battled it out over the first 1500m before Dushan was able to take control of the race and open up the margin over his Bacchus Marsh team mates to record another victory ahead of Lachlan in 2nd place followed by Patrick in 3rd.  Myah Estlick was awarded 1st place for the Under 11 girls while Lily Norman was victorious for the Under 12 girls.

Next week’s meet will be held at Bostock Reservoir, Ballan.
