Week 6 of the BMLAC Cross Country season was held at Lady Northcote Recreation Camp, Glenmore. It was pleasing to see over 80 athletes compete.

The Under 6 athletes were first to compete this week and raced over 500m through the main campground. Jude Brody-Wall (BM) and Sahib Cheema (Melt) took the early lead, and it was fast finishing Jude that claimed the win just ahead of Sahib with Ryder Reid (Melt) finishing in 3rd place. Melton teammates Zyah Cameron and Olivia Anikeev were awarded 1st & 2nd for the girls, while Bacchus Marsh’s Millicent Johansen finished in 3rd place.

The Under 8 Boys claimed the top 3 placings for the combined Under 7 & 8 1km event. Melton’s Fletcher Reid, who was the clear winner, ran a PB time of 4:03.59 mins. Atlas Ferreira (BM) continues to improve, and this week was 2nd across the line with George Jacobsen (BM) rounding out the top 3. Mason Mayen (Melt), Millie McClure (BM), Agatha Wood (Melt), Matilda Askew (BM), Elouise Evans (BM) and Olivia Callister (Gisborne) were all rewarded for their improved running with a Personal Best performance.

Bacchus Marsh’s Centre Captain, Sam White (BM) claimed the overall win in the Open age 3km race. Under 13 athlete Lachlan Simons (BM), in his first season over the longer distance, is showing much improvement and this week reduced his previous PB by over 20 seconds.

In the Under 11 & 12s 2km event it was Melton athletes who all recorded PBs for their events. Vera Wood ran a massive 42 second PB while Chord Wilson took 39 seconds off his PB time and Mitchell Elmer ran a 7 second PB. Line honors were awarded to Under 12 athlete Ella Preddy (Melt) with Under 11 athletes Logan Simons (BM) and Iyla Robinson (BM) rounding out the top 3 finishers.

The final race for the morning saw the Under 9 & 10s battle it out over 1.5km distance. Once again Joshua Askew (BM) and Auden Sundqvist (BM) had a close tussle with 0.3 of a second separating the two at the finish. As the season progresses, the athlete’s endurance continues to improve and this week the following Under 9/10 athletes were rewarded with PBs – Mitchell Tung (BM), Angus Norman (BM), Lyla Clark (BM), Archer Morris (Ballarat), Sam Ainsworth (BM), Jackson Briggs (BM) and Sofia Anikeev (Melt).

**This Saturday’s Cross Country meet will be held at Egan’s Reserve, Greendale. Due to the King’s Birthday long weekend, unofficial Fun Runs will be conducted. The Under 6 age group will compete over their usual 500m distance while all other athletes will compete in a 1km Fun Run.
