On Saturday the Centre had 13 teams represented at the 2023-24 State Relay Championships held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.
The 4x200m relay events were held in the morning session.
First on the track for the Marsh were the Under 15 boys. With injury and illness hitting the team over recent weeks, each boy stepped up and ran incredibly well placing 10th overall. The Girls Under 10 & 11’s were next on the track. Up against some strong opponents, both teams ran their hearts out finishing 6th & 9th respectively. The Mixed Under 14 were our final team to compete in the morning session. All athletes ran superbly, placing 11th overall.
After the lunch break, the 4x100m events took place. Always the pinnacle of the Championships, the buzz around the stadium was exciting.
The Under 14 boys lined up first for the Marsh. This team was also affected with injuries/illness and many thanks to the boys who ensured the team took to the track. Well done guys finishing 23rd overall. The Under 15’s returned to race their 4×100 event and each boy gave their all, finishing in 12th place. The Under 10 girls ran exceptionally well, with their baton passes on point, and the girls were rewarded for their hard work over the past few months being presented with a State Silver medal. The Under 11 girls also produced a mighty effort and should be extremely proud of their 7th placing.
BMLAC were well represented in the Mixed 4x100m races. The Under 14’s came up against some tough competition but fought it out until the finish line placing 21st overall. The Under 9’s, in their first State Relay Championships, will benefit from the experience. Well done team on a 13th placing. The Under 11’s determination right ‘til the end, saw them finish 11th.
The final session for the day, were the Swedish Medley events. The Under 10 girls once again returned to the track and a gutsy performance from each runner saw the girls rewarded for effort, dipping across the finish line for a 3rd placing and taking home the State Bronze medal. The Girls Under 11’s were our final team to run for the Championships. Coming up against some strong competition, the girls battled it out for a 10th placing.
