THE Bacchus Marsh Scorpions under sixteen team has defeated Creswick two-nil to win the Ballarat and District Soccer Association grand final.
Held at Morshead Park in September, Creswick entered the match as favourites after finishing top of the ladder without losing a single game.
Darin Ssemaganda scored the first goal in the 14th minute before goalkeeper Zane Vergles produced several saves.
In the 55th minute, Austin Blanks scored the second goal of the game.
Team captain Abhiraaj Dua said the experience has shown him that anything is possible.
“We had a bunch of uphills and downhills throughout the season with a couple of people leaving the team and keeping us stranded on numbers,” he said.
“It was a bit motivational that after this entire season with some good moments and a bunch of bad moments we came together.”
The group was coached by Liam Kiel, Andy Evans and Hilda Vergles.
“We certainly were the underdogs going into it,” Ms Kiel said.
“We had a plan having five players across the back to stifle Creswick’s defence.
“Every player worked extremely hard to prevent and give Creswick no room… to be honest it was a very comprehensive win in the end.”
Mr Kiel said the game was a great opportunity for the players to learn about teamwork and success.
“They all know each other, It was a great atmosphere and Creswick was gracious in defeat,” he said.
“They learned all about team environments and working together.
“Maybe you don’t have to be the best at everything to succeed.”
