The opening bowlers, George Muir and Jake Wernicke started strongly with a few chances being created. Unfortunately, none could be turned into wickets by the Ballan side.

Param Singh joined the attack and also missed out on some wickets after great bowling, moving the ball both ways. Brown Hill did not dwell on the close chances and created a storming opening stand, backed up by their number three batsmen after a wicket to Mack Popple. Brown Hill were 1/124 at drinks after 20 overs.

The spin twins – John Costello and David Leach were introduced after the break with Costello picking up 4 wickets (3 caught by George Muir at deep mid wicket) and Leach 3, including a magnificent caught and bowled.

The returning Wernicke picked up a couple of wickets including a catch to Banjo Leahy and a stumping to Evan Shaw to close Brown Hill’s innings at 203 in the 40th over

Ballan openers John Costello and Param Singh started the run chase confidently. Singh amassing a very nice 23 until he was caught at cover. Costello followed soon after caught and bowled.

George Muir, in his first bat for the 2nd XI this year made his way to 8 until he was run out, coming back for a second run.

James Somers, coming in at number four for his first serious bat of the season played some wonderful shots in his 16 until he too was caught out.

Jake Wernicke, 31 not out and David Leach, 7 not out played out the innings until its conclusion.
