Ballan First XI (BCA 2nd Grade)
Burrumbeet 6/180 def Ballan 9/178d

Bowling – M Snaith 18.5-6-3-44, J Jarvis 16-6-1-27, L Snaith 15-5-1-35

Was a tough day, Ballan had to create nine chances, and with conditions significantly better for batting than the week before, they had to take every chance.

Jack Jarvis bowled very well, picking up an early wicket, with both himself and Lachy Snaith beating the bat regularly. Mike Snaith found his line and length early and bowled beautifully shutting down an end and picking up three wickets with Eli and Ryan handy at the other end. Lachy’s second spell was very impressive, picking up one but unfortunately the trend of the day was in “half chances” and “nearlys”, and when they finally started to breakthrough the team just didn’t have the runs on the board, with Burrumbeet chasing the total six down.

There are three games left and Ballan need to win all 3, unfortunately not the result the club wanted for their last home game of the season.

Ballan 2nd XI (BCA 5th Grade)
Ballan 9/142 def VRI Delacombe 111

Batting – Matt Shugg 29, Jake Wernicke 19, Noel Heafield 18, Kobe Heafield 17
Bowling – Brady Naeff 8-1-4-21, Kobe Heafield 7-2-3-17, J Wernicke 6-1-1-25, J Somers 3-1-1-10

Newly promoted captain Grigg won the toss and with Wernicke and Sommers it was decided “we will have a hit”.

Shugg put his hand up to open, leading the way with his indoor cricket batting prowess, top scoring with (29). Noel Heafield landed some lusty blows with a quickfire 18 off the top before losing his head to an accurate one. Sommers (12) came to the crease and with Shugg they put on 40 runs for the 2nd wicket. The express pace of the openers was worn down with Shugg and Sommers departing in quick succession (Sommers to an excellent catch at Point). Kobe Heafield and Jake Wernicke put on a solid 29 for the next wicket, when Brady Neaff came to the crease at 4/91, made a quick 11 with some spectacular boundaries before being bowled for 11. Jake Wernicke held the middle order together, was solid in defence, ran hard and 2nd top scored (19) before he too lost his pegs. New boy Shane Newton knocked a few around for a well compiled 13 with Peter O’Brien (10) holding up the lower order and Ballan reached 9/142 from 40 overs.

Ballan took to the field with the first wicket coming in the 6th over when Kobe Heafield caught the edge and Stu Grigg in as keeper obliged. Brady Neaff combined with Jake Wernicke for another and Delacombe were 2/25 after 10. Delacombe built well through the next 10 and then James Somers obliterated the middle peg – and it was 3/52. Eventually the wickets came, with a nice catch at point by Eamon Grigg to start. The procession began and it was quicky wrapped up by Naeff and Heafield – stumps flying, runout courtesy of Newton and a few more through to the keeper, giving keeper/captain Stu Grigg three for day and Delacombe all out for 111 after 32 overs.
