BALLAN Cricket Club’s game of the week was the under-fifteens’ round six match against Golden Point.

Ballan (129) defeated Golden Point (87) with batters, Clover McIlwaine (52), Kori Davenport (13 n.o), and Jackson Letcher (nine.)

Second top scorer for Ballan’s 1st XI, Ryan Lister with 51.

Bowlers were Clover McIlwaine (six overs, 3/10), Sarah Burton (six-point-four overs, 2/7), Riley Storer (four overs, 2/8), and Jackson Letcher (four overs, 1/21).

Day one saw a great team effort in the field with two valuable run outs care of Banjo and JB.

Tight bowling from Sarah and Eamon built pressure directly onto the opposition, along with Riley who picked up two wickets.

A solid opening batting start saw off the opposition’s opening bowlers as Clover and Sarah put on a 31 run partnership before Sarah popped one up to be caught.

Eamon quickly followed when a defensive shot went back under his bat. Enter Jacko where his efforts and training had paid off, playing balanced genuine cricket shots putting on a 43 run partnership with Clover before having one go through the gate with three balls left to play in the day.

Clover kept her head all the way through the innings batting to be 29 n.o.

On day two, the team were in a great position to get their first win of the season. The team decided that they’d go for it.

Captains Sarah and Clover took the ball, Sarsey set super aggressive fields with three slips and a gully, short cover and short mid-wicket. Then the girls went to work, Clover bowling fast, full and straight to get three wickets and Sarah using her variations and landing her balls well to pick up another wicket for the team.

Golden Point managed to add nine runs to their score from day one and Ballan had them all out inside 33 overs.

Heading in to bat, Clover and LJ started well before LJ, after playing with such discipline, played across a delivery to be LBW.

Kori came to the crease with a sprained ankle to partner Clover to her maiden 50, before retiring on 13.

The remaining wickets fell cheaply and Banjo remained not out after bravely facing 15 balls from Golden Point’s quicker bowlers and getting his first run in under-15s
