Ballan trumps Ballarat bowls competition

Ballan's Tuesday Pennant Division 5 side that had a miraculous late comeback to take out the Div 5 Tuesday Pennant final by a single shot.
FOLLOWING Ballan Bowls Club’s success in winning both its Division 3 and Division 5 Tuesday pennant finals, the club’s Division 6 side has taken out the final played at Central Wendouree.
The club had a comprehensive win, beating Waubra with the score of 78 shots to 63 – a 15-shot win with three rinks up.

Ballan Bowls Club president David O’Hanlon was elated with the win on Saturday afternoon, saying: “The Saturday Division 6 pennant side has narrowly lost this final in the past three years so it’s great for them to break through and take out the season’s premiership.
“Our top division Saturday pennant side won last season’s Division 3 premiership and being promoted into the Division 2 competition we managed to play finals and narrowly went down to Midlands in the semi-final, with Midlands eventually going through to take out the premiership.

“We fielded a third side in the Saturday competition this year in Division 9, and our players went well getting through to play in the preliminary final where they narrowly lost out for a chance to play in the grand final.
“Last Tuesday we also won the Tuesday Division 3 and 5 premierships to top things off.
“It’s been a fantastic year for us.

“Club member Anne Draffen has had a terrific season and blitzed the field in the region’s various women’s championship events including the champion of champions, women’s singles and pairs, and led our women’s team entry including Jan Conroy, Janine O’Keefe and Jordon Currie taking out the fours championship.
“Anne is a Victoria state squad player.

“We’re only a small club with about 50 members but we get along well just like a closely-knit family, and I think this reflects on our overall club success.
“When playing away we travel as a group in our club bus the ‘Good Shepherd’, and this helps maintain a strong bond amongst our members and we enjoy the great camaraderie that exists between the players.”
