Ballan women bowl to keep hearts beating

A TEAM of Ballan women bowlers played in Sunday afternoon’s annual Heartbeat Tournament.

The tournament is the Ballarat Region’s fundraising event with funds raised going towards the cardiac unitsfor Grampians Health and St John of God Hospital, Ballarat.

The Ballan rink comprised Jan Conroy or “J9,” Jenny Walker and Fia Kunigiskis. They had a great afternoon and J9 said they came second both games.

A total of 38 teams competed with the afternoon’s games played at both City Oval and Midland’s bowling clubs.

From the afternoon’s effort, which included raffles after the game, more than $4000 was raised for Heartbeat.

City Oval Bowling Club – the Webbcona players Ann Gull, Margaret and Murray Alpen, and Harold Worsley, and runners up were the BMS rink skippered by Darren Millar.

Midlands Golf Bowling Club – the Central Wendouree Bowling Club members Margaret and Bill Wilkins together with Jan and Len Vincent with the runners up being the Smeaton rink skippered by Graeme Perry.
