Bacchus Marsh Cobras are encouraging more women to join the female football revolution.

Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club women’s coordinator, Rod Bertram said the club was searching for fresh players across all age groups, with a come-and-try session to be held ahead of the 2017-season. “We hope to introduce some girls to footy and in doing so, we will hopefully attract them to the club and see our teams grow in numbers,” he said.

“A few girls, who use to play for Bacchus Marsh and are now in the Victorian Football League, have offered to come down and help create a bit of excitement too.

“Krista Woodroofe, Emily Crawford and Abbey Bertram will be there going through training drills and teaching the girls some new skills”.

The come-and-try session will be held on Wednesday April 5 and will be open to
senior women, under-13 and youth girls.

Mr Bertram said he hoped to see more women become involved in football, especially after the inaugural AFL women’s league (AFWL), which commenced in February.

“Hopefully [the AFWL] will attract more local women to the game. At the moment we have about 22 senior players, with similar numbers in the youth and under-13 girls, but we would like to see more.

“For us, it’s about getting the girls onto the footy field, while also getting fit, having a good time and enjoying the social side of it, too. There’s no age limit, or restrictions on ability either”.

The Bacchus Marsh Women’s Football come-and-try session will be held at Maddingley Park Oval.
