Burton gets competition in a spin at nationals
BALLAN Cricket Club spin bowler Sarah Burton is representing her club and community at the 2025 Cricket Australia Under 16 Female National Championships, now on.
Burton took a 6/30 of six overs and Victoria Country had an opening round win against Queensland. She is a co vice-captain.
“I want to work hard each game and help the Vic team by being the best leader and team member I can be,” she said.
Ballan Cricket Club secretary Bronwen Davenport said Burton’s last over was incredible.
“Queensland had 12 runs to get, and really went for it and she bowled cleverly conceding only two runs and taking three wickets including being on a hat-trick,” she said.
“It is Sarah’s second consecutive year being selected at this level and she is very excited to get this opportunity again to play with and against the most talented young players from around the country.”
Burton has been playing with Ballan Cricket Club since she was eight years old and is part of the Senior Women’s and under-15s open teams in the Ballarat Cricket Association.
“We are very proud of Sarah and how she has worked hard and developed her skills and talent over the years, and wish her all the best,” a club spokesperson said.
Ballan senior club cricket is back from this weekend with junior cricket returning with the school year.
