Club stalwart recognised with life membership
Snaith, an all-rounder, has been part of the club for more than 15 years and has won most of the awards on offer.
He has served as a junior coach, as a member of the club committee, and was senior captain for three seasons.
His trophy cabinet includes best under-14 player, best under-16 player, McConnell Family Champion (three times) and four senior premierships. He has also won the Ballarat Cricket Association’s Bernie Davie Medal for the best and fairest player and the 2nd Grade Champion honour.
Snaith, who spent two seasons playing in a first division team in Ballarat, has played 250 games and has statistics of more than 3000 runs and 230 wickets.
The club honoured Snaith with a function at the Ballan Recreation Reserve as he prepares to move overseas with his family.
In match results from last weekend’s round, Ballan (7/170) defeated Wendouree (6/147) in senior women’s ranks, while the senior men’s first XI was all out for 142 and Wendouree was 3/64 at stumps.
The senior men’s second XI scored 139 and was defeated by Ballarat Redan, which ended on 5/141.
Highlights of the women’s game included the club’s youngest debutante, 12-year-old Layla Shugg, making her first appearance, and a 132-run partnership by Summer Dehnert and Rebecca Humphryis.
Their partnership included Dehnert’s maiden 50 and Humphryis’s top score of 24.
Dehnert backed up her performance with the bat by claiming three wickets.
In junior player news, Kori Davenport recently represented the association at the Western Girls Shield at Hamilton and was the second leading run-scorer in the under-16 age group, her tally including two half-centuries.
Kiara Grigg enjoyed the opportunity to debut for the under-14s as one of that category’s youngest players, while Clover McIlwain and Laila Ward completed their qualifying rounds at the under-15 state championships.
