SHERLOCK RETIRES

BACCHUS MARSH FOOTBALL CLUB Captain Scott Sherlock has announced his retirement effective immediately.
Sherlock broke the news to the club at training earlier this evening. The highly talented midfielder has succumbed to on going back problem and has been recommended by as many as four specialists that he should give the game away.
Sherlock has been managed in recent in weeks with limited game time, his injury allowing him just a half of football at times. His debilitating condition led to his late withdrawal before last week’s local derby against Darley.
The news comes at an interesting time for the second placed Cobras. The Club has lost two of its last three games and are on the road this week with a meeting against top six contenders, North Ballarat who have won four of their five home games this season.
The Cobras Captain is likely to require surgery.
Travis Hodgson, Coach of the Cobra’s said it was a cruel blow for the club but with loss comes opportunity.
“It’s disappointing for Scott that he has been forced out before he was ready.
“His onfield impact with just 20 games or more for us was enormous.”
Hodgson said there is now an opportunity for the other midfielders to step up in his absence and take their game to another level.
The captaincy has been handed to back man Liam Mullen, while Sherlock will remain at the club as a midfield coach.
