Estlick amongst state’s best
BACCHUS Marsh Grammar’s Mackenzie Estlick has placed third in the under seventeen one hundred metre race at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships held in Brisbane.
Estlick, who is also the captain of Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre and trains with Wendouree Athletics Club, ran a time of 11.91 seconds.
This placed her as the top Victorian runner at the championships in her age group and was a personal best time.
Estlick is the first woman from a Ballarat club to run a 100-metre race in under 12 seconds.
“I didn’t know what my time would be coming into it because I’d been sick and I was very worried,” she said.
“I was hoping top five at least but then I ran under 12 and I was very happy because I’ve never ran under 12.”
Estlick was also part of the team which placed second in the under 18 four-by-100 metre relay.
She has been coached by Commonwealth Games finalist Gerrard Keating since last year’s All Schools Athletics Championships and the pair are working on making Estlick’s starts as fast as possible.
“I will work on my sprints a bit and try and keep up the pace, so I have better starts because my starts are not the best,” she said.
Estlick’s said her next goal is to regularly run under 12 seconds.
“I want consistent under 12 seconds, that would be really good,” she said.
“Even quicker would be the best but that’s going to take a bit more.”
Estlick thanked her training partners Armani, Grace, Nyajima and Molly, and sponsors the Accountant Group Geelong, Western Region Osteo and Bridgestone Regional Tyre Centre for their support.
