The new speedway season is upon us, and Daylesford Speedway are getting things rolling with an opening day this Sunday.

Racing is set to begin at Basin Road at 11.30 am, with gates opening early from 8 am, with competitors due at the track by 10 am and pit gates shut by 10.30.

The Modified drivers have a talented field of racers this year, with the younger talent of the Kakoschke boys Bailey and Reece in action against consistent front of the field racers Daniel Carter, Ryan Daly and Ian Bartlett, whilst Steve Warlond will race in a brand-new car built in the off season.

Street Stocks action will pit club veteran Glenn McCoubrie up against the new breed, trying to take over the top spots at Daylesford. Ashley Fox and David Clark are back, and new member Hayden Glare is keen to press for victory this Sunday, after a great run at Avalon recently.

Junior Sedan action continues to create new superstars for the future, and the likes of Blaize Majok-Edwards, Peyton Edwards-Daly, Blair Botheras and Ben Carrington all return to the track, whilst Noah Basten begins his racing career.

Richelle Jenner leads the entrants in the Ladies Sedan field with Charmaine Bryans and Ellen Vagg amongst the competition. For many years Daylesford has prided themselves on supporting Ladies racing and this has contributed to the family atmosphere the club has built.

Victorian Speedway Council (VSC) Standard Saloons action will be terrific, with the likes of Dean Spring, who fell in love with Daylesford last season after having a good run at the venue, returning to compete against regular front running competitor Aaron Meakins.

Rick Stowe, who is very consistent at Daylesford, Dean Pedersen, and Bailey Sinclair who has become a regular top five campaigner at Daylesford, will also feature.

VSC Sports Sedans racing will see Paul Blake racing up against his daughter Shaqkira, and Sarah Meakins against her son Rhys. Bragging rights are up for grabs, and perhaps a little side-bet will make things interesting.

With the Victorian title for VSC 1200cc Junior Sedans at Daylesford this season, getting a head start on competition with some laps at Daylesford will be Bryce Leek, Ella Sheedy, Amiley Botheras and Bella Hartup. The latter two will be making their debut in the class, whilst Leek and Sheedy were extremely competitive last season.

The canteen and some terrific vendors at the club will be operational Sunday. Daylesford Speedway also has an onsite bar, no BYO allowed. Beers will be on sale for just $4, and spirits for $6.

All competitors and spectators need to prove double vaccination upon entry to the venue. Please have them ready when you reach the entry gate.

Entry for all adults for is $15 to enter, Life members & aged pensioners are $10. Children 10 to 17 are $5 each, and ten and under are free.
