Among the other highlights last Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Melton, was the first-up performance from reigning Victorian three-year-old trotting colt or gelding of the year Aldebaran Zeus, who blitzed his rivals in the Woodlands Stud Trot.

The Brent Lilley-trained multiple Group 1 winner sat parked throughout much of the 2240m trip, surged to the front at the home turn and thrashed a quality field of squaregaiters by over 4m.

The result takes Aldebaran Zeus’ career record to 10 wins from 25 starts, with prizemoney now up over $170,000.

Joe Pace-trained Supreme Dominator won a thrilling edition of the TAB Our Maestro Free For All by a whisker over Torrid Saint, who flashed home from back in the field to just miss in a photo finish.

The victory, for regular driver James Herbertson, continues the gelding’s path towards the Inter Dominion Pacing Championships in Victoria later in the year and adds to a record that boasts 15 triumphs and more than $300,000 in earnings.

Saturday night’s other feature was the Group 3 Lightfoot Laurels for the trotting mares, and it was taken out by Paddy Lee-trained Imamaorijet.

But the story was all about young reinsman Lochie Cook, who piloted the horse to his very first metropolitan success.

Cook, 22, could barely wipe the smile off his face when chatting to the TrotsVision team of Rob Auber and Shannon O’Sullivan.
