Lions disappoint at home
By Todd Whelan
Darley failed in its run chase against Ballarat-Redan, falling 67 runs short after being dismissed for just 97.
Chasing a modest 165 runs for victory and a fourth win on the trot, the Lions were never in the hunt after a top order collapse saw them reeling at 5/32.
Experienced duo Nathan Patrikeos (6/29) and Captain Jayden Hayes (4/28) did all the damage with the ball for the visitors, inflicting the hosts with a heavy defeat in their first hit out on Darley Park for the season. Only Drew Locke 34 (61) and Lachie Herring 24 (75) provided any genuine resistance with the bat for the Lions who were bowled out for a third time in five games, inside 50 overs.
Despite three wins already this season there are concerns for the Lions form with the willow ahead of their highly anticipated clash with crosstown rivals Bacchus Marsh. Both sides will need little motivation getting themselves up for this long awaited Round six clash at Darley Park.
Here’s hoping for a big crowd this Saturday keen to check out the action through the glass of the Lions new $5M joint facility. Play starts from 1pm.
