ATHLETES from around the region are being invited to join Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre at its cross-country open day next month.
It will be held at St Anne’s Winery in Myrniong on Saturday 14 June, the event is open to all registered athletes from Victorian Little Athletics centres.
Medals will be awarded to the top three placegetters in each division.
“It’s open to all registered athletes from centres within Victoria so any children can enter, and we will run a similar format to our normal cross-country,” committee member Linda Thompson said.
“It’s been a few years since we’ve run an open day, and we thought things are going really well with the centre at the moment so what an opportunity.”
Ms Thompson said the event is a great chance for young athletes to test themselves.
“It’s a good opportunity for the children to have a bit of a hit-out against children from all over the state,” she said.
“We’ve got it running on June 14 and that’s just two weeks out from the region cross-country carnival so it’s a bit of a hit-out before they come up to their region events and state later on in August.”
The club’s first meet of the cross-country season was held earlier this month and Ms Thompson said there was a significant turnout.
“We’ve had record numbers compete,” she said.
“The kids are really keen, and we had our first meet on May 3 and we had 118 athletes run that day.
“We’re really, really pleased with the way things are going, and the kids seem to be enjoying it.”
A canteen, barbecue and coffee van will be available on the day. Entry will be $10 plus a $1.10 processing fee and full centre uniform is required.
