TRENTHAM Bowling Club’s annual open fours tournament on 1 February has attracted a quality field of teams from around the region, including visitors from Bendigo, Castlemaine and Daylesford.

With the event limited to 12 teams, club spokesperson Max Bruton said the field for the event had filled quickly.

“We’ve got seven rinks here (at Trentham), so can only take 14 teams, but interest was strong,” he said.

“We’ve got a couple of teams from up Bendigo way, one from Castlemaine, three or four Trentham teams, and a couple of Kyneton teams and Daylesford – a nice mix from around the area.

“We have a couple here, who used to live in Castlemaine and are bowling here, so they have some contacts up that way and Bendigo, which has helped with getting teams.

“It’s good to be full of teams well ahead of the event.”

The tournament format will see teams play three games of 12 ends.

Action gets underway at 9am, with lunch and afternoon tea included.

The club, which plays in the Central Highlands Bowls Division and has two Saturday pennant teams, will host its annual mixed fours competition at the end of March.

The division one side is currently eighth on the ladder following last weekend’s win over Kyneton Golf, while division three is in ninth ahead of a clash against seventh-placed Woodend this weekend.

Kyneton (11-1) heads the division one ladder, with Romsey (8-3-1), Kilmore (8-3-1) and Kyneton Golf (8-4) rounding out the top four.
