Rebel devil at the helm
By Lachlan Ellis
A female footballer, one of Darley’s own, will captain the Rebels in the NAB League in 2022, after co-captaining the side last year.
Lilli Condon is 18-years-old, and won the Rebels Best and Fairest and got some VFLW experience under her belt in 2021, playing three games in the red, white, and blue.
While those are more than worthy credentials for the Rebels captaincy, the hardy midfielder said she was surprised and honoured to be appointed captain for 2022.
“I feel pretty privileged…everyone voted, and I felt pretty excited that the coaches and players had voted me in and thought I would be suited to this, and be capable of being captain,” Ms Condon told the Moorabool News.
“At the same time, in the leadership group there’s so much experience. Anyone could’ve been captain, so it’s exciting that we can lean on each other and do it together, I guess.”
Condon’s first game as captain was Saturday 22 January, against the Gippsland Power.
Speaking to the Moorabool News before the big day, she said she was both excited and nervous to lead the Rebels on the footy field for the first time.
