Redline Raceway returns
After a delayed start to the current season at Redline Raceway due to facility renovations and restructuring, the committee and volunteers are excited to get the start of the speedway season for Greater Ballarat and its surrounds underway this Saturday night.
The Modified Sedans and Street Stock classes will take centre stage, along with a round of the Super Rod tour and supporting Standard Saloons.
The Modified Sedans will compete in the annual Ern Overall Memorial recognising the late Ballarat businessman, who had a strong affiliation with the Modified class as a competitor and as an administrator, along with a similar affiliation to the Redline Raceway facility at various stages of his life.
Ern dedicated many hours and dollars into both organisations, and the event is a truly sought-after victory each season it has been held. Jakobe and Corey Jetson from Tasmania and Joel Berkley from Queensland are some visiting competitors this Saturday night, to come up against Kye Walters the Victorian champion, Wade McCarthy from Mildura, Brody Chrystie from Alexandra, and the likes of Darcy Wilson from Ballarat, Darren Cockerill from the Redline club, Dylan Barrow (another from the Ballarat club), Daniel Simpson from Horsham, and Ballarat-raised Ladies Bella Rizzoli, Karen Ferguson, and her daughter Brooke.
A number of the entrants are in with a real shot of figuring in the final five spots come feature time, and the Modified six-cylinder cars as usual will thrill race fans.
Street Stocks will also feature, with the Eliminator Cup having been renamed and dedicated to all those legends of the past that have passed on. Now known as the Legends Memorial Eliminator, drivers who make the feature race will flip direction of racing three times with only a set number of cars moving on to the second and third segments after eliminations, before those remaining competitors go hammer and tong to win the race overall.
Expect competitors to attempt to swap their door decals through the night with drivers representing the host club such as Mick Dann, Dean Jenkins, Andrew Burgoyne, Scott Secombe, Scott Purdie, Matthew Glab, and Melissa Crutchley, who will be up against Dale Morrison, Jason Duell, Shaun Henry, and Jayden Blomeley looking for a big win to kick start the back half off the season.
The powerful and loud Super Rods competing with eight-cylinder engines hidden under their small car fibreglass bodies that represent makes such as Minis, Daihatsus and Suzukis along with others are always popular wherever they go. They return to Redline this weekend in a round of their tour series and the Standard Saloon, with lots of Ballarat representation will be the support class of the evening.
Racing begins at 4.30 pm, finishing at 10.30 at 569 Yankee Flat Road Buninyong. Adult Tickets are $30 each with Children aged from 6 to 16 at $7, and aged and invalid pensioners $25. A family ticket will cost $65 for two adults and three children, whilst any child aged five and under are free.
