Scorpions show sting in their tail
A Moorabool soccer club has taken out the championship in the Under 12s, braving freezing conditions to win in a close 1 – 0 battle.
The second place Bacchus Marsh Scorpions took on first place Daylesford Hepburn United Black in the Under 12s Grand Final on Saturday 17 September, in a cold, wet day at Redan’s Morshead Park.
The Scorpions came into the match in good form, having thumped United 3 – 0 in the semi-final two weeks prior, with United defeating Ballarat North United 2 – 0 in the prelim to meet the Scorpions once more at the big dance.
Kicking off at 9 am, the two teams looked evenly matched, heading into extra time at nil all.
Who else would break the deadlock, but Bacchus Marsh’s Golden Boot winner, Nick Mai?
Kicking his 42nd goal for the season, in the second last minute of extra time, Mai broke United’s hearts and secured a one-goal win, and the cup for Bacchus Marsh.
