When Darley Football Club President Ray Newton was asked to explain the Devil’s 2017
success so far, he had just two words – Heath Scotland.

The playing coach was bestowed the Ballarat Football League’s Coach of the Year award
during the league best and fairest at Tabcorp Park in Melton on Monday (September 18).

Scotland played as a junior for Darley before embarking on an AFL playing career with
Collingwood and Carlton.

He returned this year and carried the senior team into third position on the ladder and
into the grand final clash against Bacchus Marsh this Saturday.

Mr Newton said Scotland had an influence over the club that could not be
underestimated.

“Scotland has the upmost respect from every single person here at the club.
“He is definitely best on ground at all times, he is an absolute marvel on the field and his
coaching is just superb.

“The reason we are in the position that we are right now is because of Heath Scotland and
the moves he makes both as a player and a coach. He’s like a chest master out on the field,
he is just terrific. Everyone absolutely loves him”.

Scotland also polled 18 votes in the 2017 Henderson Medal and was named in the BFL
team of the year.
