It’s been cancelled twice due to weather, but the Daylesford Speedway Club have their fingers crossed for clear skies at their season opener this Sunday.

Weather permitting, a full show will kick off just before lunch, including all the clubs’ independent classes along with Vintage and Victorian Speedway Council classes.

The Club’s diligent committee has been busy in the basin working the track over, and checking to make sure parking areas are strong and safe.

This Sunday, the likes of Bailey and Reece Kakoschke in the Modifieds will compete with Ryan Daly, Ian Bartlett, and Steven Warlond, amongst a contingent of Modifieds sure to entertain.

In Street Stocks the very consistent Glenn McCoubrie leads the Glare brothers and new Daylesford members, Ash Fox, David Clark, Anthony Bull, and others to battle.

Daylesford’s six-cylinder Junior Sedan class will see Noah Basten, Blair Botheras, Peyton Edwards-Daly, Blaize Majok-Edwards, and Ben Carrington clash for the victory, whilst the Ladies will also be in action with drivers such as Shelby Higginbottom, Richelle Jenner and Ebeny Bull.

The Victorian Speedway Council Standard Saloons will feature Daylesford’s Dean Pedersen against a number of Ballarat based race drivers including Jacob Head, Bailey Sinclair, and Rick Stowe.

In the Junior 1200 Sedans, fresh off victory at Drouin two weekends ago, Arthur Hutchinson will compete with Riley Taylor and others.

For those who love nostalgia, the Aces of Spades Club will do some spirited demonstrations with their old Fords and Chevy Slopers.

The canteen and some terrific vendors at the club will be operational Sunday. Daylesford Speedway has an onsite bar, with beers for $4 and spirits for $6. No BYO is allowed on the day.

Head to Basin Road Daylesford to watch, and for any general enquiries, call 0449 107 863.

Entry for all adults is $15, life members and aged pensioners are $10. Children 10 to 17 are $5 each, and ten and under are free, no family tickets are available.

Racing begins at 11.30 am and the gates open early from 8am with competitors due at the track by 10.00 am and pit gates shut to racing entrants by 10.30.

You can follow the Daylesford Speedway Club on its website, and on the Interactive Mobile app.
