Top spot for Ballan cricketer

BALLAN Cricket Club’s Sarah Burton had the best individual bowling figures at the Under 16 Female Cricket Championships for Vic Country.

Burton started the tournament with figures of 6/30 in the first game and ended as lead wicket taker.

She was named in the team of the tournament with 17 wickets at 14.24.

Another club member, Clover McIlwaine, has been taking part in the Cricket Victoria Under 15 Premier competition and scored her second half-century for the season.

This is her first century at a premier level.

Regular Ballan club matches have resumed after the break for the Senior Men’s First XI with Ballan (212) defeated by Lucas (8/234).

Lucas won the toss and chose to bat, and after an early wicket to Ballan, Michael Kuiper scored a century and remained not out.

Ballan’s top order got the club to 3/142, but from there the batsmen were unable to build strong partnerships and fell 22 runs short.

The team is still in finals contention, sitting fourth on the ladder.
