Towners’ callout for netballers
By Tim Bottams
Members of the Dunnstown Football Netball Club are seeking past, present, and new players to take part in senior netball tryouts next month.
With the Central Highlands Football Netball League season set to start in April, the tryout sessions will run weekly at 6pm from Wednesday 7 to Wednesday 21 February at the Dunnstown Recreation Reserve.
Towners netball president Teghan Henderson said it’s a chance for anyone who’s interested to try their hand at the sport.
“We’re happy to have absolutely everyone and anyone who’s keen to have a play,” she said.
“The tryouts will be a bit of fun with some exercise to see how everyone goes and what grade they’ll best fit into.
“We have a lot of returning players this season and we have our A, B, C, and D Grade sides and four junior teams. We’re looking at about 40 to 50 players overall.”
Pre-season training is set to start immediately following the tryouts and grade selection prior to the Towners’ first game of the season against Gordon, with their regular practice to likely move from Wednesdays to Thursdays during March.
This season will also see the introduction of the club’s D Grade side following an unsuccessful attempt at building one last year.
Ms Henderson said the new team is another step forward for the club’s growth.
“It means more supporters around and more people attending with game day sessions, training, Thursday night dinners and even more of our seniors attending junior games,” she said.
“We’ll be looking for four more people for the new D Grade team to help round it out.”
