SENIOR cricket umpire Tony Trist will travel to Bangkok, Thailand this month to umpire in the Hua Hin 6s annual cricket competition.

In the last two decades, the tournament has grown to become a key fixture in the Thai cricket calendar as cricketers and their families and friends head to Hua Hin Beach for a week of fun and friendship.

The competition now in its 27 year has 24 teams from various countries each, with six players.

When fielding, one player becomes the wicketkeeper and the other five bowl one x six ball over. Any wide or no ball is automatically four runs plus any runs scored and the ball is not re-bowled, thus making games approximately 40 minutes.

The cricket is played on hard-wickets and is within the grounds of the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Resort which is located 170 kilometres south of Bangkok on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand.

Trist has been umpiring for 17 years including stints with the South Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Victoria before joining the Ballarat Cricket Umpires Association three years ago.

He will be travelling to Bangkok with his wife Liz.
