The Tigers welcomed the East Belmont Saints to Masons Lane for Round 5 of Division 3 last Saturday. The local Moorabool club currently sit second on the ladder, in what is turning out to be a tight competition.

The Saints pitching restrained the Tigers until the third innings when Thomas Shaw notched up his second hit for the day to right field. Good, aggressive base running saw him steal two bases, then he was brought home with the batting of James Bailey.

Bailey started on the mound for the Tigers, holding out the Saints until the fourth innings where they scored a run when Steven Fox hit a single, then followed up with some very smart base running.

Both teams changed their pitchers for the fifth innings, with the Tigers bringing in Shiori Hoshino who dominated the Saints bats with no runs scored and five strike outs.

In the bottom of the sixth innings a wild throw allowed the Tigers James Bailey to get on base, Nathan Gell followed with a brilliant triple bringing James home for the teams second run of the day, and leaving himself in scoring distance on third. He was brought home on the batting of Tate Heiskanen giving the Tigers a match winning 3 to 1 lead.

Coach Bronwyn Gell led by example both in the field and at bat, catching throughout including converting a sharp fly ball into an out as well as making a sacrifice bunt. Other highlights included a great catch in rightfield by Cooper Wallace and good combination outs from T Shaw at shortstop to Jonathan Bell at first.

This round completed the first cycle through the teams in this grade, with the Tigers recording four wins and a loss to Corio.

Round 6 – BM Tigers v Corio at home (Masons Lane) this Saturday, 1pm.
