Young cricketer wins big
BALLAN Cricket Club player Clover McIlwaine has become the back-to-back winner of the Under 15s Marg Jennings tournament.
The tournament finished this week and Clover’s primary role was as the opening batter for Geelong Premier Cricket Club.
The final came down to the last ball of the game and Geelong won by one run against Prahran.
Clover was within the top 10 leading run-scorers for the competition.
Locally, the club played two senior men’s games where the First XI team won a two-day game against Wendouree.
New life member Michael Snaith took 6/19 from 17.3 overs and captain Hayden Micallef took 3/36 from 11 overs. The Second XI also won, with Buninyong restricted to 5/121 in the 40 overs.
Ballan passed that total in the 24th over after only losing one wicket.
Highlights included opening bowler James Burton getting 2/30 in his eight overs and captain Max Burton scoring 68 not out.
He had a partnership with Jordan Meier, 34 not out, who also contributed 1/14 from seven overs.
This week will see most of the teams including juniors back, with home games at Ballan Recreation Reserve on Saturday 1 February.
