{"id":10045,"date":"2022-05-23T08:02:38","date_gmt":"2022-05-22T22:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=10045"},"modified":"2024-02-03T05:25:26","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T18:25:26","slug":"displays-are-back-after-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/displays-are-back-after-damage\/","title":{"rendered":"Displays are back after damage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bacchus Marsh &amp; District Historical Society<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is great to see the displays at the Pioneer Women&#8217;s Memorial Avenue rotunda, that were damaged, have been replaced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pioneer Women of Bacchus Marsh &#8211; A brief history:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The original Avenue of Honour had 276 Claret Ash trees stretching along Bacchus Marsh Road from Clarinda Street, up over an area known as Stamford Hill to the Western Highway. In those days the Ballarat to Melbourne Road went through Bacchus Marsh. But over time with drought and road widening the trees died off. A plaque was then set into a rock at Mason\u2019s Lane Reserve to commemorate the pioneer women.<br \/>\nIn 2008 the Bacchus Marsh Country Women\u2019s Association (CWA) placed a monument and rotunda to commemorate the pioneer women of Bacchus Marsh at Stamford Hill near the corner of Main Street and Halletts Way.<br \/>\nThis memorial replaces the original Pioneer Women\u2019s Avenue of Honour, which the CWA created in 1935.<br \/>\nThe Pioneer Women\u2019s Avenue Memorial was unveiled by Mrs Jan De Krester, Patron of the Country Women\u2019s Association on 2nd August 2008.
