{"id":10051,"date":"2022-05-23T10:00:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T00:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=10051"},"modified":"2024-02-03T05:24:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T18:24:47","slug":"great-patch-to-live-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/great-patch-to-live-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Great patch to live in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<br \/>\nA family-owned farm is feeling nostalgic this month, with an owner marking 52 years since moving to Bacchus Marsh.<br \/>\nRun by Jeff and Glenda Jones, Jeff Jones Plants &amp; Produce has been operating in Bacchus Marsh for over 60 years, and on Sunday 15 May, Glenda Jones marked 52 years in the business and also, over five decades of marriage.<br \/>\nThough things have certainly changed in town since she arrived from North Balwyn, Ms Jones says Bacchus Marsh is still a perfect place to live.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen I came here, it was a very close-knit little family town. When I first arrived there were only about 3,000 people living here. It was quite different, along the Avenue of Honour there were about ten families who owned little orchards,\u201d she told the Moorabool News.<br \/>\n\u201cPrimary production has changed enormously\u2026before I came it was mainly dairy, where we are now was a dairy farm before it was planted out in 1960. There were all little apple orchards along the Avenue, now there\u2019s only one big one, the Dellios\u2019. Then you\u2019ve got Payne\u2019s, the little one, that\u2019s an original family one,\u201d Ms Jones said.<br \/>\nDuring the Jones\u2019 time in Bacchus Marsh, traffic has become a big problem \u2013 Ms Jones regrets the Woolpack Road bypass not going ahead \u2013 and the shop was \u201cbusier 30 years ago\u201d.<br \/>\nBut despite the town\u2019s rapid growth, and the struggles it\u2019s gone through, Ms Jones still believes Bacchus Marsh is \u201cthe bee\u2019s knees\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cBacchus Marsh has been very kind to our family, our children have had a great life here, Jeff and I have had a great life here. I think the close proximity to Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong help to keep it still rural, but a bit metropolitan too,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cI just love Bacchus Marsh\u2026it\u2019s been terrific running Jonesy\u2019s all this time. We used to sell from the shed in the early days, but of course it has changed, the demographics of selling now have definitely changed.\u201d<br \/>\nThe farm has started growing heritage pumpkins again, which Ms Jones says bring a sense of nostalgia and \u201clook great in photos\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ve grown them for years and years\u2026they\u2019re all different, people really do like the different ones. There\u2019s all different flavours, some are for soup, some are for roasting,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cThey\u2019re eye-catching too, people take fabulous photos of kids sitting on them and that sort of thing with the bright colours. They\u2019re a drawcard in that way.
