{"id":10054,"date":"2022-05-26T11:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-05-26T01:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=10054"},"modified":"2024-02-03T05:22:27","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T18:22:27","slug":"its-the-conversation-of-the-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/its-the-conversation-of-the-hour\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s the conversation  of the hour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<br \/>\nABC Radio\u2019s Conversation Hour program came to Moorabool on Monday (16 May), asking locals what issues they were concerned about \u2013 and the resounding theme was \u201cwe\u2019re not being listened to\u201d.<br \/>\nMelbourne presenters Richelle Hunt and Warwick Long set up the outdoor broadcast in the rotunda at Eddie Toole Reserve on Main Street, with a crowd of around 50 locals gathering to listen and have their say before the federal election last Saturday.<br \/>\nGuest speakers included Derek Madden (CEO Moorabool Shire Council), Bacchus Marsh Grammar Principal Andrew Neal, and Glenda Jones from Jeff Jones Plants and Produce.<br \/>\nRichelle and Warwick\u2019s initial thoughts on Bacchus Marsh was that it\u2019s a growing country town, suffering \u2018growing pains\u2019 from a lack of required funding and infrastructure.<br \/>\nMoorabool Shire Council CEO Derek Madden said eight-years-ago their Capital Works was $10 million, this year it\u2019s $65 million.<br \/>\n\u201cThat\u2019s playing catch-up. That\u2019s pure catch-up on the population that\u2019s already here, for the population that\u2019s coming we are struggling,\u201d Mr Madden said.<br \/>\nAn indoor pool was a facility desired by the Moorabool community, a need echoed by the CEO.<br \/>\n\u201cI know a lot of people in the community are talking about a swimming pool \u2013 Council have committed nearly $30 million to that sporting precinct, which is really just playing catch-up on infrastructure that was much-needed.
