This poor bird (pictured) is suffering from a deadly disease called beak and feather disease. <\/p>\n

Beak and feather only affects parrot species of birds. <\/p>\n

It causes infected birds to lose their feathers and their beak becomes overgrown, making it impossible for the bird to eat. Very sadly, they eventually starve to death.<\/p>\n

Beak and feather is a horrible highly contagious disease, that can impact whole flocks of birds. <\/p>\n

It is for this reason we do not encourage bird feeding stations and the feeding of wild bird as it becomes a communal spot for them to spread the disease through contact.<\/p>\n

So if you have a bird feeder to bring our beautiful native parrot species to your yard, consider disposing of it and instead planting some beautiful native trees and bushes to entice them instead.<\/p>\n
