*****IMPORTANT CHANGES*****<\/strong><\/p>\n

Did you know there are important changes to the Firearms Act coming into effect as of the 30th of August 2022?<\/p>\n

From 30 August 2022, the following<\/strong> must be met to ensure compliance with the law:
\n– Firearms must be stored in a purpose-built steel storage receptacle
\n– The steel must be of a thickness of at least 1.6mm (which complies with Australian\/New Zealand Standard 1594:2002).
\n– If the receptacle weighs less than 150 kilograms when it is empty, it must be bolted to the structure of the premises.
\n– The receptacle must be locked with a lock of sturdy construction when the firearm is stored in it.<\/p>\n

Victorian firearm owners must check their current storage against the new requirements.<\/p>\n

Receptacles must be purpose built for firearm storage. This means they were specifically built to keep firearms in.<\/p>\n

The upcoming storage changes also apply to:<\/strong>
\n-people who are newly licensed or applying for a licence
\n-people who plan to buy or get a firearm.
\nLicense holders MUST NOT store firearms in a receptacle built of hard wood, nor can firearms be stored in old fashioned clothing lockers. <\/p>\n

Victoria Police place great emphasis on firearm safekeeping. If you fail to comply with storage requirements you could face significant fines or imprisonment.<\/p>\n
